Far Cry keeps crashing :-\
« on: August 16, 2004, 11:03:08 PM »

I have this massive problem with far cry, it keeps crashing every 20-30mins, it usually does it when I'm loading up a save game for a 2nd or 3rd time (after Ive died  >Grin).
First you can see the game has loaded but theres no sound, then straight after that it comes up with this error:

"CRITICAL ERROR: entity classname EAXPresetArea classid =186 id=1 ALREADY EXISTING IN THE MAP"

Its starting to really piss me off... >Grin

Any help would be much appreciated. Wink

Later, God bless.  laugh

First things first have you installed the new patch?
second f-cry hates overclocking its a known fact
its a bitch of a game..more memory or different memory might help..if this is of no help i would put far cry crahing in on google & see what it brings up cos they are countless forums out there due to ppl not getting it to run correct Wink

Yea I heard about that game and overclocking, thats gotta suck for some people.

Yep I have installed 1.1 and it didnt help a bit. I think its a sound problem.

I have tried the following:

Turned off EAX 2.0 in the game settings.
Turned off hardware mixing in the game.
Turned off the doppler effect.
Changed the sound mode from Dolby 5.1 to Stereo.
Then when none of that worked I tried compatable mode, which didnt help either. Then I tried reinstalling sound drivers but none of it helped.

Udate your audio drivers, my buddy had a similar problem with doom 3. When ever he struck an object the audio would go dead. Updating fixed his problem. I had problems with audio in Neverwinter Nights and when I updated the audio drivers for my Audigy 2 ZS it corrected itself.

How can people whine over that "this and this game dosn't run well on overclocked hardware"? *LOL*
Do you really expect things to run 100% all the time when you put hardware outside the limtis of the manufactued specs?
Especially now, when games are pushing hardware  like the CPU and GPU (eg. Farcry and Doom3) to the max?

I dont know man, I looked all over the internet for a solution, but I couldnt find one. Have you got the latest patch? I got the latest patch and now I have another problem, it seems some of my savegames arent compatable with 1.2. :smile Pathetic...

Are you using a cheat that puts stuff into the map that you would not start off having at the beginning of the map? That could be it.

It sounds like sound card that is causing the crashes. Do you have another card you can try? This could atleast eliminate the soundcard itself as the problem. If it still crashes then I would say it is the drivers. Farcry runs fine on my overclocked hardware and my audigy 2 zs.

See if this helps. Turn off EAX in the game, and the sound card. See if that works then.

Terra - If you OC and somethings fails, don't blame anyone but yourself smile

What if it goes the other way like my CPU? If I run it at factory specs it sure the hell isn't stable and fails at OS boot.
So If I feed it more voltage it runs stable at stock specs, but once I fire up a game and runs it for a while, temp hits 54C and it reboots.

So it may work the other way too, the speed it works with stock voltage is XP 1600.

I have some other funny things in my FarCry, scripts tend to fail every now and then, and prevents me from completing a level.
I finished the game though so it is no problem but a restart of the game cleared most such jams, but often gave me major setbacks due to errors in the save system.

Oh and in case some of you wondering, I got my rig running stock at the moment.
But char limit in the sig prevents me from updating.

I have, yes.  :smile This is what happened to me in the end: I ended up formatting the hard drive, then reinstalled far cry. Now the only save I had was about 2 or 3 full leves ago, and to make it worse the most recent level of my savegame wouldn't load after I installed the 1.2 patch. So I was back about 4 long levels so I thought screw it...

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, you could try a google search, I know when I did a few other people were getting the same problem but I couldn't find a way to fix it.
