Morrowind
« on: September 13, 2004, 02:07:29 PM »

Alright, when i play Morrowind, it will randomly just exit to the desktop. No error messages and with no delay, 1 second I am playing and less than 1 second later I am staring at the desktop. This is very annoying. It happens at completely random intervals. Sometimes after 2 mins or sometimes after 2 hrs. I have tried updating all drivers and returning all components to default speeds. I've even tried different directx versions but nothing works!!! This is similar to ben_sw problem with farcry if you havent already read that thread.

help would be greatly appreciated.

Yea I've had the same problem with morrowind too, so has my mate, and he says its some sort of compatability issue with windows xp, I dont know why, maybe getting the latest could help.

Well, programs bombing out can be a memory problem, try running your ram at more relaxed timings, but if it doesn't do it anywhere else then I doubt that its the problem...

Well, I have been playing Morrowind, and the two add-ons for it, and never had that above mentioned problem.

Is your system running too hot?

What is the wattage of your PSU?

Thanks for all your replies.
Ben_sw: Yeah, my cousin has the exact same problem, which so far he has also been unable to fix. I'm inclined to believe that it is just a buggy game as bethesda couldnt solve the problem either. The problem has eased somewhat after installing the 2 expansions though, but doesnt fix it.

pcKiller: Checked all my temps and nope, not too hot (20 - 30c for my cpu) and my psu is a 480watt antec so I dont think that is the problem.

Cyclone: Ram timings at manufacturer default (SPD) and game still dying.

Two questions.
1. Is it patched?
2. It wouldn't happen to be a warez-version you've got? If so then try a different crack.

I had some trouble with morrowind quitting on me sometimes (quite random, and not often) but then I patched and switched cracks and it never happened again(it sometimes crashed for other reasons though).
Don't worry, I have the original game.

So I am correct to assume it's all patched up?
Try running it in different compatability-modes.

I believe some xbox games run in 1024x768 when you use HDTV 1080i (only a couple of games support it)... could be wrong though.
