MSN popups.
« on: September 16, 2004, 04:04:08 PM »

I remember their being an option somewhere deep within the recesses of the c:/ drive for turning off the msn popups, but I can't find it. Does anyone know how to turn them off? Does anyone even know what I'm talking about?  :-\

If your talking about those stupid messages that get deilvered through the "messanger service" just turn on the firewall for your connection and it will stop them.

Ah yes, but if I turn off the firewall I'll need to set dozens of security options in all the programs I have running at any given time. (I've been on a bit of a downloading spree, ysee. Wink) There's no other way?

The grey box ones. The ones that send you to some dodgy looking link to fix some alleged spyware problems. :-\

ok here is what to do.
1) right click on "my computer" and go to manage.
2) then go to "services and Applications.
3) go to "services" and find the "messenger" one.
4) right click on that and set the startup type to manual and then stop the service close all the windows and you are all done
