2.8 Prescott or 2.8 Northwood?
« on: September 26, 2004, 08:08:07 PM »

 Guys I've been trying to get a Northwood 2.8 FSB800 but all I could get were the Prescott 3.0 FSB800 and the Northwood 2.8 FSB533. The price difference is around 30 $US. Which is better for my setup? {Shown below}
Do I need a special case ventilation scheme inorder to use the prescott?

In my opinion, you don't wanna go with the 533fsb, so you gotta do the Prescott, but your gonna have to deal with the heat! Perc ran Prescotts, so he could give you some first hand advice about cooling. The extra bandwidth really makes a difference performance wise...

 Thanx man, I really needed a push to go Prescott. I'll get it instead of the 533 Northy, but you guys really gotta help me with the cooling. I can only go on Air Cooling, and even at that I don't have much options from the shops over here, so I got to get creative, and I wish I could get all the help you guys would give

The stock cooler that comes with it should be fine if you don't plan on overclocking Wink

farmer pretty much summed it up.  Since you can't get the 2.8C, go for the prescott.

the prescotts run hott. there are some newer steeping out now that dont run so hott so maybe youl get one like that. running it at defualt voltages and all that will still be a toasty running chip id say about 55-60c so dont get all alarmed when you get the thing and your seeing 65c temps!! the stock cooler should be alright. id try it and see how it does you can always buy a thermalrite to run on the chip. anyways good luck anymore questions just ask..

peace perc,

 Thermalrite? I read a lot about them but I'm really sad to say that I can't get one over here. The only available coolers over here are the stock heatsink/fan, or the GigaByte 3D Cooler which is really awesome, but also very very pricy ,around 50 US$. I'm thinking of importing an Akasa cpu cooler, I found some of them at really cheap prices in Overclockers UK. What do you guys think of Akasa Cpu Coolers, and what's the price on Thermalrites?
