Hi, I got Neverwinter Nights off a friend and it installs fine but it wont start. It showed the start up graphic and then acts like it is loading and it never does. Someone suggested installing Direct X again and I tried it but same thing. Can anyone help? It is really frusterating.

i'm guessing this is a burnt copy of the game, so I suggest going to MegaGames.com and getting a nocd for it.  after u put the patch on it should run fine Peace, |

Sorry I forgot to mention. I already have the nocd patch for it and my friend uses the same copy and patch and it works for him. ???

You gotta make sure that the crack version and the game version match. I'd try re-installing the game and cracking it again. If that doesn't work trying using a different crack.

Could be dirt or a scratch on the cd which is stopping the laser from reading the data cabs?..try giving yer rom drive a good clean & clean the cd |

I had this problem with neverwinter nights too, it turned out to be a sound problem, try different sound settings in windows and\or in the game and see if it works. Also do you have the latest patch for the game? |

Ok I finally got around to installing NWN again and you're right about the audio. The game works fine if I disable sound in the game setup, but still won't start is I enable it. What kind of sound settings are you talking? If sound is disabled the in game sound settings are greyed out, and I can't find anything useful in windows anywhere. What did you do to fix your problem? I don't really wanna play this without sound!  |

I've already spent close to 300 bucks on this computer in the last few weeks, I don't really feel like buying another sound card too 'just in case' it works.
I've looked on the NWN forums and this is a very common problem and alot of people are seriously pissed off. There's currently no official explanation or fix for it. Oh well I can play it without sound I guess...
edit: Oh yeah i tried a few of their suggested fixes too, but not the ones involving 3rd party drivers, etc. Yeah like im gonna install 3rd party drivers...
