50% overclock on GPU core
« on: April 07, 2004, 03:25:47 PM »

Hey guys, I gotta Radeon 9500 (softmodded ot Radeon 9500 Pro). Stocks settings for my card are 270/270 GPU/RAM. With 1.7v AGP I'm able to push it to 405/270, run 3DMark2001 and it hasn't crashed. What's your oppinion on my card? I'll post a compare link later.

PS. I can't overclock the ram by even a few mhz without artifacts

Well, if it is on the stock cooler then it's pretty amazing OC you have, hell even with an decent cooling solution i still think it's a good one.

Is the ram sinked? Could be they also need more cooling or even that you have to give the ram some more volt through an bios modification of your card...

yes indeed this is a great oc. you ought to look for a guide on volt moding and consider volt modding that bad boy and while your at it get some good cooling on that sucker! i bet you the ocs get even higher. did you look to see if that thing has the memory in a L patern? look and see if its an L patern or if the memory just goes straight across the top of the card. If the memory does have the L patern then i think you may just be able to mod the thing to a 9700pro? to be honest from the looks of that core oc it verry well maybe possible to mod that sucker to a 9700pro? keep us posted....

Nice O/C.  The max I can get is ~370 before I start seeing grainy textures on my screen which can't be good.

Perc, I think he has the I shape RAM... those are moddible into 9500pro's, but they have the 128bit bus and add the extra 4 pipes.  Still a good deal though.

Even though memphis you have overclocked so far , it would give you such better 3dmarks if you overclocked the ram too because the gpu will just be waiting for data from the ram , great oc though  Cheesy

Yeah, but like i said, WHEN i raise the ram by merely a mhz it starts to artifact. anyway a 3:2 GPU/RAM ratio is still better than 1:1.  Grin

They are abnormalities in the graphics, like little black specs appearing or some kind of blurring/bleeding. It can happen when the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) gets too hot. If you ever overclock your card and you start seeing any type of abnormalities as I said like black specs, blurring/bleeding, you have overclocked to far.

Now that I have answered that, let me say you have an excellent score man! Very very nice OC. I am surprised you could push that card so far, good job!

Yeah it's stock cooling on my sapphire card, in fact it doesn't need 1.7v agp, i can do the same on stock agp, 1.5v
