Though this game has been out on the market for a while it still amazes me at how long it took for Valve to get the game out. Following the original Half Life game it is set after the terrible incident at Black Mesa (a research facility) where a teleportation problem goes wrong and allows aliens from another world to enter earth. Though Half Life 2 isn’t set in a research facility it still delivers brilliant plots with stunning graphics (I love the water effects).
Gordon Freeman (the main character from the first game) has just been woken up from an apparent sleep to find himself on a train heading towards a city named City 17. From there he runs into one of his good mates from Black Mesa named Barney who stops Gordon from being transported to Nova Prospect. It is from this point that Gordon has to try to survive against a force known as the Combine who are the soldiers, the police and the politics in City 17 and the story unfolds and the real visions for City 17.
Half Life 2 was the winner of over 35 game of the year awards and is quoted to be the best game ever made. Plus it comes with the worlds greatest online game Counter Strike Source. And another game has been spawned from the weapons and characters of Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Deathmatch. It really is Half Life 2 but it is missing one thing that Half Life 2 has, a story line. Half Life 2 Deathmatch is really just a “frag fest” between players in random maps.
In my opinion Half Life was a brilliant game and Half Life 2 was even better than the first. Though a lot of people say that the quote of “The best game ever made” was over exaggerated I believe it to be mostly true. And if you are like me and have played and loved the game you will understand why.
The next Instalment of the Half Life series has been titled Half Life 2: Aftermath. And I can’t wait to play it.
