i'm havin problems with the DVD-ROM in my P4. The computer doesn't detect the drive in either the Device Manager or the BIOS. When i press the button toit, i get nothing.
Also when the drive is fully plugged in it adds about 1.5 mins to the time it takes for the comp to boot up. As soon as i unplug it, the comp boots up quickly. Any ideas???
cheers

Could be the IDE cable, tried it on another cable plug? Also remember PSU connection... I guess you allready have done that however.

Yea first I would try a new IDE cable or mess with the slave/master jumpers. If that doesn't work you probably have a bum drive.
I got a Sony DWu14a for christmas and it would make my boot time last about 2 minutes longer. It would also take over a minute for the drive towhen I pressed the button.... then on top of all of that it wouldn't read. So I RMA'd it, got a new one and same damn thing. Then I thought something else was messing it up in my computer, but it had the same errors in two other computers I tried it on. RMA'd for the second time and finally got one that worked flawlessly. Sorry for the long story, but it sounds like you may be having similiar problems to what I had. Does the power LED on the dvd rom actually come on?
