i had to do a repair install of XP pro (i deleted something to do with the login), and since then my screen is very jerky when scrolling (mouse or scroll bars) or dragging things around the desktop.
i've tried installing different versions of the detonators/forceware but whichever i use, the display adapter isn't shown in device manager. GTU says there's no geforce installed.
in display properties/settings/advanced/adapter - no adapter type is shown & all the 'adapter info' is shown as <unavailable>.
in display properties/settings/advanced/monitor - the properties button is greyed out so i can't install the monitor drivers either.
what has happened? no hardware changes have been made.
its identical, even down to the vgasave. essentially the solution is to install the via 4in1 drivers - but i can't. i've tried the latest hyperions and also some older version, both times i get the same error:
Can't run 16-bit Windows Program Cannot find file ......setup.exe (or one of its components. Check path etc etc.
a bit odd, as i can run/install other things... i've tried extracting the files & running setup direct, and using the packed.exe.
any ideas on this one?

Number one first thing is first fresh install that system all over again it seem like you have something going haywire I recommend reinstalling. It seems like you are stuck in safe mode or you only have vga running.
Do a fresh install and report back if you have the same problem. Don't do a go back or a backup copy reintall the whole thing delete everything off the partion and start from scratch and then you can go from there. "Z"
